PICO question:
Does Melatonin have a role in treating chronic headaches in the pediatric population?
P: Pediatric population with chronic headaches (migraine or otherwise)
I: Melatonin
C: Continued care with routine headache therapy
O: Improvement in baseline intensity, frequency or duration of headaches

Article: Melatonin to prevent migraine or tension-type headache in children

Bottom line:Although this was a small non-blinded, non-randomized trial, it is suggestive that melatonin may be a safe and effective intervention for children with multiple forms of chronic headaches. Advances need to be made with a RCT in this area for stronger evidence in the future.
