Getting citations into Reference Manager from OCLC Firstsearch Databases
Although the instructions which follow are specifically for the Agricola database on OCLC Firstsearch, the process should be similar for other OCLC Firstsearch databases.
- Before beginning, copy this file into your Reference Manager \Import directory: OCLCAgriAcola.cap (You may need to depress your SHIFT key while clicking on the filename in order to save it.) You only need to complete this step once.
- Run the search in Agricola as usual.
- After selecting the references you want to import into Reference Manager, click on the E-mail icon.
- Choose Record Detail: Detailed records.
- Choose Record Format: Send as plain text.
- Type your email address in the space provided, scroll down and click Send .
- Open your email and copy the entire contents of the message into the word processor of your choice, e.g. Microsoft Word. Save as: filename.txt.
- Start Reference Manager and either open an existing database or create a new database.
- Choose References...Import text file.
- On the next screen, click on the ... button to browse and select OCLCAgricola.cap for the Filter.
- For the text file click on the ... button to browse and select the filename.txt you want to import.
- Click Import to transfer the Agricola references into a Reference Manager database.
Filters for other OCLC Firstsearch databases are available from the
Reference Manager websites . Copy the filter for the database you want into your Reference Manager \Import directory. (You may need to depress SHIFT while clicking on the filenames on this page in order to save them.)
