Getting citations into EndNote from Google Scholar

Set your Google Scholar preferences to export citations directly into EndNote.

  1. If you have not already done so, create an EndNote library. (You can also put the citation in an existing EndNote library.)
  2. Go to Google Scholar.
  3. Click Scholar Preferences to the right of the Search box.
  4. In the Bibliography Manager section, select the radio button next to "Show links to import citations into..." and choose EndNote from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click Save Preferences.
  6. Perform your search.
  7. Click the Import into EndNote link.
  8. Choose the appropriate EndNote library.

The program should do the rest!

Note: When you add references to an existing EndNote library, you might see only the most recent entries. Choose References > Show All References (Ctrl+M) to get back to your entire EndNote library.

Caveats: You can only download Google Scholar citations one at a time. Basic information (author, title, source) is downloaded; however, abstract, keywords, author affiliations, etc. are not. Check the EndNote record for accuracy (e.g., Reference Type; journal information) and adjust if necessary.
