Getting citations into EndNote from PubMed
In PubMed, you will need to save your citations as a .txt file and then import them into PubMed using a filter.
- If you have not already done so, create an EndNote library. (You can also put the citations in an existing EndNote library.)
- Search PubMed as you normally would.
- Use the check boxes to mark the items you wish to export to EndNote. You can send the items to the Clipboard for later downloading using the Send to drop-down menu.
- When you are ready to download (or from the Clipboard), change Display to MEDLINE.
- Choose File from the Send to drop-down menu (you may need to turn off pop-up blocker).
- Save the file to your desktop as a .txt document.
- In EndNote, choose File > Import.
- Under Import Data, browse to find your .txt file.
- If you do not see it on the drop down screen, click Other Filters. Then choose PubMed (NLM).
- Click on Import
The program should do the rest!
Note: When you add references to an existing EndNote library, you will see only the most recent entries. Choose References > Show All References (Ctrl+M) to get back to your entire EndNote library.
